Have you ever worked in a woodshop? These Beechwood parents gathered to learn to make beautiful wood cutting boards for their kitchen! First, they chose the pieces of wood they wanted in their cutting board, and organized them in an appealing way. They glued the strips together, clamped them, and waited about 30 minutes. Then they learned how to put their rough, uneven boards through a planer to make everything even. Next step: hand sanding with with three different grits of sandpaper, starting with the coursest, then medium grit, then very fine, to get it nice and smooth. The final step was applying butcher block oil, a natural protectant for wood surfaces that come in contact with food, which really brought out the natural beauty of the wood. Nice work!
